It is possible to do your floor yourself, however, there are certain benefits that come along with professional application. One of the major benefits that Garage Works offers is a professional floor preparation. The key to a long lasting floor begins with the floor preparation process. Whether your garage floor is new or old, professional floor grinding is recommended by all epoxy manufacturers prior to application. Although the application process may appear simple, it is one that requires lengthy practice both with the application of epoxy and the colored chip application. Our company specializes in floor coatings and assures that professional products and processes are used to produce a high quality coating for your floor.
I have a couple of oil spots, can my floor still be epoxied?
Yes. With the proper floor preparation steps, oil and other stains can be epoxied over.
I have an existing coating on my floor, can that be removed?
Yes. We have the proper floor grinding equipment and specialized bits to remove any existing floor coatings. Removing this coating is necessary to assure that our system is able to bond properly to the concrete. This process may add additional time to the concrete preparation process and additional charges may need to be applied.
I got a bid from _____________ and it is lower than yours, why is that?
Well, floor coatings is an industry where there tends to be a lot of competition. Quite often we will run across companies that get business just by undercutting the competition. If you look into the details of their estimate chances are there is usually some major differences between the service and product that we offer verses what they are offereing.
Here are some of the reasons they are charging less:
- They are not grinding your floor but rather acid etching it or simply not prepping it at all.
- They are not be including a top-coat or clear coat.
- They have little experience in putting in floor coatings and don't know what is required
So be weary of a very cheap estimate often you get exactly what you pay for. We are licensed, insured, and have been doing floors for over 3 years.
What kind of warranty do you offer with your floors?
Garage Works systems are backed by our limited 5-year warranty.
I have some cracks in my concrete, can those be fixed?
Yes. Any small open cracks or concrete spalding (flaking or chipping) will be repaired before any coatings are applied. Any significant cracks or damaged areas will be subject to additional charges. The homeowner will be notified before any repairs or charges will be applied.
Can you fill the expansion joints in my floor?
Yes, this is possible but not recommended. The expansion joints in a concrete floor can be filled using a specialized joint filling compound. However, the expansion joints in your concrete were created for the purpose of allowing for the expansion and settling of the concrete to prevent cracking in the pad. Filling the joints will not prevent this expansion from occurring, and over time this may affect the look of the floor.
Will the weather affect the application of my floor?
Weather is not a concern regarding the application process of our flooring systems. With our epoxy systems there is an increase in the curing time with colder weather, but the quality of the flooring system is not compromised.
We also offer a one-day poly-acrylic flooring system that is not affected by weather.
What do I do with all of my stuff when the garage floor is being coated?
The homeowner is responsible to remove all of the items from the garage. It is recommended that any valuable items be stored in the home. Side yards, covered patios or temporary storage systems (P.O.D.’s) are recommended for storing your possessions. Garage Works is not responsible for the home owners possessions during the garage installation process.
